Blogspot has a failure that I need ... need ... to work around right now.
But I can't.
With them, privacy is all or nothing.
So I'm branching out.
I'm not leaving blogspot. This is my main blog home and I'm pretty happy here.
But I have something I need to talk about, something I need to let out there into the universe.
Having said that ...
This invitation is open ONLY to my IF buds.
It's your perspectives I need right now.
If you want the link to my new blog and the password to the posts, leave a comment with your e-mail address or shoot me an e-mail.
After trying to conceive for 4 years and experiencing one pregnancy loss, my husband and I are starting the adoption process.
Some say it's not the destination, but the journey. I say it's all about the destination.

Getting away ...
Our 4 year wedding anniversary is next month, the 17th.
We haven't been on any kind of real get-away since our honeymoon.
We did each take several days off when we bought our house almost 2 years ago. But even those days were filled with the work and running around that's involved with moving into a new home.
Then that pesky my getting fired thing. I had the time, but not the money.
This year, though, we're getting away.
Not far, just about an hour NW of here.
But it's not the usual Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg trip that involves overpriced hotels, food, and attractions.
Besides ... we live 20 minutes from there and can head up there for a day whenever we want.
Instead, I scoured the internet for a bed and breakfast. I've never stayed at one. They always sound so quaint and sweet.
Days and days of looking ... at prices, inclusions, exclusions ... the whole gammut.
I found one, in this area of all places, that charges almost a grand a night. For a room, a private bathroom, and breakfast.
Honest injun. Almost $1,000 a night.
And when I think 'bed and breakfast', I think romance. Apparently my thinking was skewed, though, because almost all of them, at least in most of TN, cater to kids. Some even go so far as to offer babysitting services.
That'd be great if we had kids that we didn't want to escape, but we don't have any. And I don't relish the thought of trying to be all romantic and sexy with my husband with a toddler screaming two rooms down or a pre-teen running up and down the hallway.
But I digress ...
I scoured, searched, and read review after review.
Some would seem worth the price, considering the setting and luxurious size of their private rooms and what's included (from hot tubs on a private porch to a nightly, romantic dinner cruise on a lake). But I found that most really aren't worth upwards of $250 a night - really - you get a room, a private bathroom, and breakfast. I could get that at just about any hotel for less.
I just couldn't justify the cost.
Until I found this place.
For $125 a night, we get the room with private bathroom, a full breakfast, AND a full 4-course dinner.
It's in a truly historic town in middle Tennessee that offers tours of original buildings and such. And me being me, I find that sort of thing absolutely fascinating.
The site I found it on only offered up 1 review, so I went to Mr. Google and searched for more. And every single review I found (more than 30 on one other site alone) were outstanding. From the inn keepers to the setting to the food, all comments and ratings were excellent.
And, did I mention, it's only about an hour from home? So if Hoss decides he's going to eat PJ after all, we can make it to the hospital in no time flat? (you think I'm joking, don't you hah)
It's quite a deal. If we were to stay in a hotel, we'd have to buy our breakfast and dinner and, of course, snacks around lunch time. All of which will easily add up to, and beyond, $125 a day / night.
The only downside is that our room will have a double bed. They do have rooms with larger beds, but they seem to stay pretty booked and that was about the only room they had left.
But I'm not complaining. We'll be getting away for a real get-away weekend for the first time in 4 years.
And if push comes to shove, one of us could always sleep in the bathtub.

Efforting ...
At least that's what I'm calling it.
Efforting.
Not dieting. No.
Efforting.
I'm making decent strides in the 'making an effort to eat a bit better' arena. Not perfect by any means, but better.
And I have my permission to have candy or ice cream or something greasy if I want it. Not a lot, but some.
Funny thing I've discovered about giving yourself permission - when you can, you usually don't.
I've had a bit, but nowhere nearly as much as I was use to. And I'm eating more fruit and yogurt instead of the candy and ice cream and fried chicken fingers or french fries.
When I do eat greasy foods? Yeah ... my body now lets me know that it's not acceptable.
It's easier during the week, though. At work, surrounded by several women who are dieting, I have less of an urge to eat beyond what I brought with me.
The weekends are proving tougher.
And that's ok.
Because I have my permission to eat a bit more like the habits I'm trying to break.
Which makes it more of a 'eh, maybe later' than a 'must have it right now'.

They've teamed up against me ...
Anyone care to take a guess at what unpleasant event happens ... many, many times through the day ... while your body adjusts to metformin?
Yeah. So much so that I had to warn my manager that I'd be up and down all day for the next couple of weeks.
I figure I'm saving tons of money on colon cleaning, though. Not that I've ever had that done, mind you.
Ew.
But I digress ...
The other fun thing is the bacterial vaginosis I was diagnosed with. I thought I had it, I was the one who brought it up, and I was right.
Speaking of ...
Why is it that guys can proudly joke of bouts of crabs, jock itch, and sweaty balls, but a girl mentions the normal, already-existing bacteria throwing a party and getting a bit out of hand and we get a reaction like our crotch will fall out any second?
Stupid.
Anyway ...
I was given an RX for a gel for it. Which was mixed up with the very similar gel medication for rosacea.
Lucky that I'm a smart girl and thought "why did they give me a tub of soap instead of applicators?!?".
The medicating started last night.
And most of you women will know the drill - insert at bed time and spend the next entire day walking around with goopy girly bits.
Rinse and repeat for 5 nights.
All the while, trying to not shit myself.
Fun times.

And it's done ...
My visit with the new gyne (Alley - like how I just stole your Dr. New?!?) went as expected.
In other words - uneventful.
He seems nice and he does seem to know as much, if not more, than I do about reproductive organs (hah). For those not in the know - it's amazing how much you learn while on the Infertility Train, including things the average gyne should, but doesn't, know.
But I digress ...
He was impressed with my vocabulary. As he said, it's not often his patients know words like 'annovulatory, insulin resistant pcos' or 'mutatation of the MTHFR enzyme', much less 'luteal phase defect'.
I'm a genius like that.
We talked about my going back on Metformin for the insulin resistance. And he had no problem admitting that his office doesn't usually prescribe the extended-release variety (the regular dosages make me horribly sick) and that he needed to look up the dosages.
Which I like - I far prefer a doctor who says "I don't know, but I'll find out" than try to bullshit his or her way through something.
The exam was the usual ... breast, belly, vagina.
But I wanted to cry.
Sitting there in a gown, wanting to bawl like a 3 year old.
Who knew going to a regular gyne would be so emotional?

Dr. New ...
Tomorrow, Thursday, I have my first appointment with a new gynecologist.
This will actually be my first appointment with a 'regular' gynecologist in 4 years.
Crazy, isn't it?
I'm so use to seeing an RE, someone who's more concerned about my ovaries and hormone levels than the daily status of my crotch.
This is going to be odd.
I've filled out the paperwork that I'll need to bring with me and I'll be sure that all appropriate areas are taken care of - no stinky feet (I have been known to wash them in the exam room sink while waiting for the doc), shaved legs, yardwork *wink* done ...
And there are things I do want to talk to him about - hormone changes that I think have led to other changes I've noticed as I've gotten older.
I also wonder if I'm not hitting early menopause.
I don't have hot flashes like the clomid flashes (although not much can touch those bitches), but I do have moments of ... the best way to describe it is that my face will suddenly get tingly. Not hot, not sweaty ... just ... tingly.
General, normal, gyne stuff.
It's just so ... odd ... feeling ... to get back into the mind frame of just seeing a normal gyne for normal girly bit things.
Kind of like my going to straight bars - I've done it, but I'm way more comfy in gay clubs.
